A Sustainable CommunityThis is a featured page

Is it possible to have a sustainable community that doesn't require any of the earth's precious non-renewable resources to maintain itself? This is my dream. A community that grows its own food sustainably and organically, nourishing the earth with environmentally and ecologically logical practices. A community that gathers and uses its energy from renewable sources like sun and wind. A community that give to the world by being a model for healthful living and sharing that model through education. A community that is so beautiful, that people all over the world come to visit, to see how it is done and to relish in the serenity of nature nourished. Is it possible? I have been inspired by Michael Pollan's description of Joel Salatin's ecologically sound and sustainable farm in his book Omnivores Dilemma. Polyface farm maintains itself with very little inputs, giving back to the soil and the surrounding community. Joel's successful experiment with working productively with nature has inspired me to think that you could bring the same model to an entire community. Each part working together as a whole to support and sustain one another.
Just a utopian dream? Maybe, but why not, the more we dream inspired dreams the more we create in the universe. Dream on.
